In Recitatif, by Toni Morrison

Toni Morrison

The racial identity of Roberta and Twyla is an doubtful part of the story. From the start, it is apparent that Roberta and Twyla are of different races. They were both "stuck in a strange place with a girl from a whole other race." Throughout the story, each character is developed more and more, though it does not necessarily lead to a conclusion as to what race each girl. Many of the traits could be indicative of either a black or white girl. More so, it confuses the issue even more by leading the reader to decide one way and change his/her mind a minute later. However, in the scheme of this story, I think that is just the point.

In the beginning, my first initial reactions were that Roberta was the black girl, while Twyla was white. During the time period in the beginning of the story, a negative attitude was taken toward black people. It seems as though Twyla's mom had warned her about the black people who "never wash their hair and they smelled funny. Roberta sure did smell funny.”. Twyla also tells the Big Bozo, "My mother won't like you putting me here." A white mother did not want her white daughter to be roomed with a black girl. Furthermore, Roberta does not seem to understand this. "Roberta asked Twyla “Is your mother sick too?'" In my interpretation of how things were in those times, a white person may be offended to be paired with a black person, while the black person may not care. In this case, Twyla shows concern for being put into the same room as Roberta, while Roberta does not seem to notice any hatred.

Following this incident in the story, Twyla encounters Roberta in Howard Johnson's. Roberta "is sitting with two guys smothered in head and facial hair. Her own hair is so big and wild that Twyla could hardly see her face." This implies to me a sort of "Afro" hairstyle for both Roberta and her escorts. Even her clothing and jewelry seen to suggest that she is black. "She has on a powder-blue halter and shorts outfit and earrings the size of bracelets," similar to the earrings worn by African women. She is also on her way to see Jimi Hendrix, a black musician, and snubs Twyla for not knowing who he is. Though this is not entirely indicative of a black person, it is more likely to be a black person. This once again contradicts the previous conclusion of Roberta's race. The line between who is black and who is white gets very hard to tell the difference.

This brings up another important issue in the story. Society has given blacks a negative marking, a negative "brand." Even black people begin to find the black race as offensive and digusting. Regardless of which girl was black, this could have led them both to have the yearning to "hurt" Maggie. This leads to my primary point. Genetics and appearance do not make people different from one another. The difference between a black person and a white person to distinguish without visual features that maybe there is actually no difference between them except for the visual features. Even these features are sometimes absent in a mixed race person who is still considered black (non-white) due to genetics, but white due to appearance.

Zelzah: A Tale From Long Ago

We usually forget that happiness does not come
as a result of getting something we don’t  have, but
rather of recognizing and appreciating what we do love

This story was amazing. In Zelzah: A Tale From Long Ago its about a girl named Zelzah, seems to be quite different compare to her siblings. She does not complain about anything and does not ask for anything as well. Zelzah's siblings got marry and have kids, but not Zelzah. Zelzah was forced to marry her cousin. Having to share one room with her parents and her sisters, it was hard for her. Her parents wanted her to go to America. She had to meet up with her aunt and her uncle. When she had gotten to America everything was not the same where she lived, it was like a culture shock.

She arrived at the house with her aunt and uncle to meet her one cousin that she had to marry. She thought that he was cute. During her visit in America, Zelzah had to learn to speak English, her
first language was Yiddish. It was quite hard to be
able to speak and write English.

One thing that I thought was the most interesting part is when Zelzah had found out that her cousin had a secret thing for this special girl named Grace. This story is quite interesting because Zelzah and her cousin were suppose to marry each other. Grace was pregnant with Zelzah's cousins' baby, however Grace had died given birth to the baby. Zelzah had asked her cousin if he still wanted her in his like she was going to be there. He said no because he was still grieving over the lost of his wife. Zelzah's Aunt promise that Jake will make her a good wife which Jake secretly wanting to marry Grace. Zelzah did request if Jake would not mind her to be his wife as Zelzah can help care for the child. Zelzah does not complain instead she laughed even when her Aunt apologize to her when things does not go as it plan. Why would she laugh? She seems to be a kind of girl where she wanted everyone to be happy, like she does not fit in this family so she's trying to fit in by filling in family position. After that she work her way up to her goal as she received education through high school and college. She worked at the textile. She traveled like she said she want to and she became a teacher. Ruth knew Zelzah was different. Ruth does not understand how Zelzah was able to put up with textile factory. Zelzah seemed to just appreciate everything she receive no matter what happen. After all those years where she had to intrigue into American culture. It took her years and years to learned American's languages, money system, phrases, and behavior.

Love is not what you are searching for your own happiness . Zelzah has a different opinion of Happiness. She's just being grateful for what she have received in life. This could be one of the reason that people who tend to have too much high expectation for themselves or goal would try to aim for their happiness than those people who do not. When you at least expect happiness, it will come eventually.

Little Saigon

I thought it was kind of interesting how this story turned out to be a poem, I I’m not much of a poet myself but I clearly understand the meaning of this story. This story talks about different parts of life, How the story went was like broken up into poems. Departure talks about how one girl is trying to escape from the world that she lives in. I guess she trying to see where it will go. When she closes her eyes she is in her own world, a world where she can be herself and not have to worry about someone judging her.

It like she has no one who be there to comfort her with emotional support, no one there to tell her that everything will be okay. So she feels that she needs to do for herself. The lesson from Departure is that you will always be by yourself no matter where you go. There is nothing wrong with being alone as long as you know you will make it out okay. No one can tell you otherwise. But having a friend and family support will help you mentally and emotionally.

The poem adrift is similar to all freshmen right now because it is there first time being away from home. So they will of course get homesick, and feel like they do not want to be where ever they are. Being away from home teaches you to be independent, and learn how to handle situations on your own without having to get into any confrontations. Most freshmen are scared to be away from home because they do not know what to expect when they first arrive on the campus. First year, freshmen tend to start doing things that they would not normally do when they were at home.

On the Rainy River

Tim O'Brien
Tim O'Brien, the narrator of our story, decided to tell a story that no one in his  family knows because he felt like it was embarrassment to himself and to his family.  20 years before he confessed by writing a story,  he receives a draft notice.

His first thought was, he has a fear of death and knew he was not meant to fight another human being.. He just graduated from Manchester College and plan to attend to Harvard university in 1968. He was facing too many things and felt like it was getting out of control, he escape to Minnesota where he meets Elroy Berdahl, an 81-year-old who runs the Tip Top Lodge. That man changed Tim O’Brien life. Tim and Berdahl got along great. One day, Berdahl gave him money though they never discussed his embarrassment decision he made with Berdahl. One day they went fishing  out on the Rainy River close to Canada's border. As soon he saw Canada’s land, he saw freedom, he didn’t have to worry about going to Vietnam War but that didn't happen, he got to the point where he realized that he cannot leave his family and his life in his country. He wanted to go back to where he start and go to the war.

This story is quite emotional with a lot of feelings. He didn't feel proud with his decision, if his parent, family, community knew about it, I wondered what they will think of them, will his decision be different then? I can never and will never relate to his feelings but I’m sure it's the hardest decision he made. However, he's a hero anyway, he fought for his country at the end.

The setting sun and the Rolling World

I don’t really fully understand or relate to this story but this story explained about the father were trying to explain to his son, Nhamo that cultural  is combined  between the people and the land. Nhamo felt like and believes that his father have his old fashion ways  and/or over protected because the father was afraid that Nhamo will never come back home. Nhamo wanted to start a new life without his father's way. Nhamo is stubborn and thinking himself and life. Old Musoni was hoping his son wills stay his home to work and watch his farm and home after he was become older to the point where he cant work anymore. He was disappoint in his son that he want to leave home to journey to find a new life. He gave up and let him go to learn a mistake.

I don't support the father's idea but that's because I live in this kind of culture. I understand Musoni want to keep a traditional and not allow people invade the new culture in his family but I felt like I’m rooting for Nhamos to go out and have the adventure and live differently.

"Beautiful & Cruel" and "Trip in a Summer Dress"

I was not sure about the poem that Sandra Cisneros wrote. It is just a strange way for her to say such thing like that. I checked her poem on internet. There are analyze and summary relating to this poem. This poem related to Esperanza, who thought she is an ugly girl. Esperanza stated, “I have decided not to tame like the others who lay their necks on the threshold waiting for the ball and chain”. It is exactly same remarks that Sandra wrote in the short poem. Overall, it applies to Esperanza. Only if Sandra added more information about Esperanza then I would understand the poem better. I understood where Esperanza came from. She came from the family who has high expectation fo her, that she reject against it. She is independence, and has a mind of her own. The short poem also based all about gender politics. Esperanza felt that she is ugly in the family, but she is very powerful woman that refuse to give the beauty away. Meanwhile, Esperanza does not care if any man doesn’t come for her to take her away. I think Esperanza prefers to be independence and proves that she is a strong woman. Esperanza felt that lot of women who are beautiful and are cruel at the same time. Obviously, Esperanza is an ugly girl, but has amazing personality within her. I wish men could have gets to know her first before the looks becasuse sometime personality just makes you look beautiful. Shame on those men who missed their chance.

I didn't like the story of “Trip in a Summer Dress.” because the mother's character, I do nott like the mother! She has no right to make the decision for that girl. This girl wanted to raise her son, Matthew in her own . If I was she, I will make sure I live far away from her and I would force her to take me to hospital where they would relieve my pains from child birthing. Contraction is so painful that lot of women have to suffer through. Why can’t this girl just tell her mother off, and just tell her son, Matthew that she is his mother? It is better to do now than too late. Her son will not forgive her for leaving him. Leaving a child behind with grandmother without a good reason is going to effect his point of view on family. I am aware that this girl’s mother is controlling and angry with her for getting pregnant at early age but it does not make it okay for the mother to take controll with her own children. Like I have a friend who was pregant at early age and her mother was there for her anyways when she knew her daughter could have a better life but she also knew she cannot take the time back. She has to focus on what will be better for them in the future. When I read this story, I can’t even imagine leaving my children to be with my mother. My mother is a great mother for my children but i've always wanted to be a mother and I will make sure I can do anything to make the best for them. I would want to have my children around me everyday and I want it to be me to take care of them, have them to call me mommy. You will wake up everyday and know that your children is looking forward to spend the day with you. I pity the girl who has to deal with her mother, I cannot imaging my life like that. I hope someday when she's older and wiser. She will have some peace feelings with her own decsion for herself and children.

Dawn by Tim Wynne-Jones

In the Dawn short story, wrote by Tim Wayne-Jones. I want to be honest with you. I think this story is short and different, but I really do not know what to say on my blog. There is nothing related to my experience. I think the point in this story is to get us to understand that once two people meet awkwardly but they later comfort each other, and they would want to see each other again for a obvious reason.
Barnsey went through the crisis of his parents’ divorce. I cant really say I understand how he feels because I went through where I didn't have a parent role. It was always men that take over the life of my mother. I never met my father so what does divorced means? I can't answer me. I guess I went through different experience than Barnsey. In my opinion, I think people divorces for good reason, or some stupid reasons. It depends on individuals. It is up to them whether to work it out as long love is there. If a person does not want to, then it probably would not work anymore.
As for Barnsey’s situation, his parents could have spoken with him before they decided to divorce. I do not mean they have to stay or divorce based on his son’s decision, what I meant is that, they could have sat down and spoke with him to why they were divorcing. The parent should have at least some explanation about it because most common for children to blame themselves for their parent's divorced.
I noticed lot of kids tend to think it were their fault for making their parents divorce. It made me wondering why people decided to marry each other if they were unsure if they would stay together for another thirty to fifty years. They obviously fell in love and wants to marry for a purpose, why did their love have to change throughout their marriage. I think they should think twice before marrying. After all, there are consequences for divorce couples. The consequences are to spend lot of money for lawyer, child custody, and that can lead into an ugly situation where your children should not be involved in but they will sooner or later.

I've noticed that there are many divorce couples in America society now than in the past. I wondered why people divorces more than in the past. I believe it changed now because woman start to speaking up for themselves before, we're in the world where we felt like we should compete against “men” or have equal to them.
Overall, for this short story, I just did not have any connection to this story. Makes me realized that children grow from their experience. I’m a girl who has no parent role in her life and a girl who had to start acting older at age of 10. Some kids will never realized how much they appreciate life unless they experience something. Children of divorced parent seems to react by doing drugs, giving attitude, being angry, or else. All they do is blame themselves and hope for their parent to reunited and work it out. If I ever get marry, I will make sure we really want to be together and work it out with every situation we have. If it didn't work out I will make sure I handle it differently.

Bad Influence

Video coming up soon. . .

Rita, who's the narrator and a charterer of this story. She is almost fifteen-year-old girl with bad attitude. When she and her best friend Meli lie to their parents about staying over their house like they always so but one day, one of Rita's family member had to go to hospital and they were trying to get a hold of Rita and she and her best friend had been caught attempting to sleep overnight with their boyfriends. Although nothing happened between the two girls and their boyfriends that night, their parents still believe the boys to be a "bad influence" on them. In order to keep her away from her boyfriend Rita's parents give her a choice of punishments. She can either spend the summer with her grandparents in Puerto Rico or she can go on a convent retreat for Catholic girls. Rita chooses to go to Puerto Rico so she can continue to go to her original school, however she really wishes she could stay in her hometown of Paterson, New Jersey. Normally, Rita sees her grandparents once a year for two weeks and spends most of her time in Puerto Rico on the beach with her cousins. This time, however, none of her cousins are on vacation at the same time. This time she will be alone with her grandparents When Rita arrives, she was not excited at all and when she got out of the plane in hot and humid Puerto Rico, she is greeted embarrassing, annoyingly gregarious and overwhelming by her relative and their friends; when she tries to calm herself in the car by practicing deep breathing, her grandmother assumes she's having an asthma attack and harangues her with asthma stories. As days went by, she would pretend to be sick in order to avoid her odd grandparents. As weeks go by, she finally figure what her grandparents do for living, if she didn't make the choice to go to Purto Rico, She would not know her grandparents 100%. Rita's grandfather helps people with cleaning out the house and getting rid of evil spirit. This girl she met, her name is Angela, without her, I think she would practialy beg her mother to take her back home or else. However, it did not end that way, she laughed because it was one of her best summer yet. I was surprised by the end of the story because I thought she would learn from her family and grow into a mature young lady, perhaps, it's probably the teens attitude to show off like that. I hope next time when she take the bad influence, I hope she cry on her knee and make her wake up before she continue this poor behavior.

"The Circuit"

I really enjoyed the stories in The Circuit I really like it because you can picture what's going on and can understand how the author felt at that moment base on my experience as well. This book shows the life of the author, Francisco Jimenez. Francisco's family crossed the border from Mexico into California for a better life. They became migrant farm workers, and in each chapter we see the family in a different place, doing a different type of farm work. Francisco struggles in school, as he never stays in one place long enough to really "settle in" "The Circuit", could stand alone as a short story I am so impressed with the spare language and the emotions Jimenez shares in his story. Francisco Jimenez is a young boy who lives with his family in a small pueblito in Mexico called El Rancho Blanco. The family dreams about living in a place where Papa will earn good money and they can live in a house with electricity and running water. Papa decides that his family will cross La Frontera, the border between Mexico and California, so the family can have a better life. The family finds the journey to California difficult. California is not what the family imagined. The family works all day in the strawberry fields. When strawberries are out of season, they must move and find work in cottons fields. In between work, Francisco Jimenez finds time to start being comfortable at school with the teacher that works with him alone during lunch time. The teacher told him he will teach him how to learn to play corridors, he was quite excited so he wanted to tell his parent the great news about that, as soon as he got home, he noticed boxes was neatly packed up. He knew he's moving again, corridors does not matter anymore. They will never stay where they can settle for awhile. I can understand how he feel expect that I am not immigrant. I moved places to places and it's hard to make friends and lose friends so at the end when we start moving, I felt like there's no point of trying to make friends or do anything that I want to do for my life. Whatever I do, I put it on hold. It was not easy to move places to places. Knowing that I’m not alone in this, he's not alone too. Thing will only get better when he becomes older and stay in school.

"Rules of the Game"

Rules of the Game” is about Chinese-American, Waverly Jong, explains how her mother taught her the art of invisible strength when she was six years old, constantly saying that it is a strategy for winning arguments, respect, and chess games, although she was unaware of the last one at the time she learned the art. Waverly Jong was narrates her own story. Who lived in San Francisco's Chinatown with her parents and two brothers, Vincent and Winston. The family lives on Waverly Place, Waverly Jong was named after this street. They are poor, the children do not think they were because they eat regularly and have plenty of fun playing in and out of the alleys and shops in the neighborhood. Through the years, Waverly's mother consistently gives her and her brothers nuggets of wisdom so that they can improve themselves and their situation, instead of allowing them to simply accept the poor confines of Chinatown. From my understanding, Chinese has high expectation in their children, they want them to get a nice, fancy job, or make money. Like for example, I’ve read a story about a girl who was living her mother's dream, it's called ''Two Kinds'' by Amy Tan, a battle of wills between the narrator, a young Chinese-American girl, and her mother, a Chinese immigrant. The narrator, Jing-mei, struggles to discover her own sense of identity in the face of her strong-willed mother's dream. ' her mother, believes in the American Dream. With hard work, she feels that Jing-Mei can be anything she wants to be in this great country. her does not want her daughter to ever suffer the kind of deprivation and tragedies that she had to endure in China. But the daughter has no passion to prove herself. She wants to take life as it comes. The mother believes that anything can be accomplished and she uses her daughter as her outlet to prove it. She continuously give her daughter numerous of tests and eventually forces her to take piano lessons, which becomes her mother's prime focus of her 'perfect daughter' determination. Related to this Chinese-American girl, her mother continue to tell wisdom statement to make them think what it means. The mother teaches her daughter the "secret of invisible strength" she compares the rules of a chess game to the rules that lead to success in life and she has a way where she stay calm, focus, and talked in her head “The wind leaves no trail” I saw a clear path, the traps to avoid. The wind blew stronger. “throw sand from the east to distract the knight came forward ready for the sacrifice. The wind hissed, louder and louder. “Blow, blow, blow. He cannot see. He is blind now. Make him lean away from the wind so he is easier to knock down.” this helped her win tournaments. As you noticed, they used “Wind” (in BOLD), it represented strength to win chess games. My opinion about this story is quite interesting how parent expect so much in such a young age children because of their culture and how much the tolerance they had in China. At the end of the story where it said “I closed my eyes and pondered my next move”, what will happen next? Will she continue to do the tournament or will she stop? Will she do it for fun and not for her mother?

A Gift of Laughter

A Gift of Laughter, I believe that this means that whatever a child do with such innocent thoughts really make the difference in how we (adults) need to realized that we, as we get older usually take things personal such as getting stress about money bill or else. Robbie has a flasback of his childhood because he knew that his child reminded him that he used to go through the same thing but the only madethe best out of the situation when it comes to his child. His child was excited to show his father about what he made for him but the father was busy talking about money issue with the mother and it upset the child. The father realized what he was doing so he looked back and knew how his son felt so he decided to see his son and comment the picture that he made for him. The son didn't think he means it so as soon he was trying to leave, the father decided to leave with him and take him to the store. I thought that was a sweet gesture because it makes a child realized that his father do understand him, went through the same thing he did and he does pay attention to him. I believe the tittle of this story is about how wonderful a gift of a child can be, a child that can make the difference in you, and a child who remind you that you only live once.

On 09/22/10 DPS responded to a dorm for a sexual assault allegation where the parties knew each other.

DPS is working closely with MPD, Student Affairs and the Office of Student Conduct to take measures to ensure the campus’ safety.

Students are encouraged to use caution when attending parties or events where alcohol is consumed.

If you choose to drink, be responsible.  Alcohol clouds decision making and increases confidence, a combination that often leads to risky situations.

Additionally the community is encouraged to pay attention to their surroundings and report any suspicious activity to the department of public safety.

Dancer

This story I will talk about this lonely girl, how she has a way of expressing her feelings into positive way, the meaning aging at young age, and narrator’s tone of this story.

This girl was obviously from somewhere where it was not pretty, for some reason, I felt like she was abused before that cause her to isolate herself from people. She was a loner, she wouldn’t talk at some period of time, and she has way of showing her anger. The positive way of expressing her feelings was to dance, that help her feel ease with her anger.

The meaning of aging but at the same age, like for example, a 12 years old act like 18 years old, base on his/her experience growing up. Many children act older than their age because they were abuses, they had to worry about their safety and about their other sibling or else. A child should never worry about that at such a young age. I can relate a little in this story because my sister was only 7 years old when she act like a 20 years old, she was taking care of me when I was 4 years old. We had to worry about the demon (men), find a way to run away from violence, get money together to buy food, a place to stay and such.

Narrator is a mother of adopted child, her tone in this story seems not too positive, like she doesn’t care, that sound too strong. More like she expect this kind of thing. Like for example, a adopted little girl killed a cat, the mother reacted different like she’s not really desapline her to tell her its wrong to do that, I would have reacted different and tell them what was wrong and tell them its not okay. Later in the story, the natorator's tone seems to change afterward, I can tell she started to lose up and seems so proud for what she was doing. She can tell that little girl has grown up as her eyes started to sparkles, that was the moment when she was finally free from her past.

My thoughts about this story is quite interesting, there is many ways that kids who is angry about their past, family, and/or friends. It makes me sad knowing that other people who’s angry kills people, leave school, not being successful, or end up in jail. That kind of behavior is not an answer.

Two different dreams

After I read the poem called A House of my own and Saturday at Canal, I actually felt like I was in there because how they explain their feelings, I can relate to them. This poems shows how a female who wanted to have a peace and quiet place of her own and two teens who seems lived same routine everyday without having the dream of being a real American teenagers and they wanted to get out of town feelings was expressed into poem.
A House of my own explains about a female, who seems to be a very independent, I can also feel that a guy has abused her for a long time. I believed she does not like when men has a power to be the man of the house because of her history
Now she’s someone who seems very happy to have the things of her own without argument or worries. She has some peace that she wanted where she can start feeling inspiring to start writing poem.
Saturday at Canal, I loved how this poem takes the reader into the boredom of addolesonce without losing their interest. At age 17 or any teen years is suppose to be a fun and memorable memories to look back and tell your future kids how fun your life used to be, many teens tends to go through all kind of phrases. This poem shows two teen boys who are not happy where they are.  Those teens are bored with their daily routine life; nothing excited or has nothing to look forward to the next dat. They dreamed to go to a better place. “Our eyes followed the water, white-tipped but dark underneath, racing out of town” it means their true selves remain dark who wanted to get out to enjoy life as a teenager.
I can relate a little bit to each poem, I’m a female who loves the idea of having a house of my own, have some peace for myself. I’m very independent who do not like to be ordered or have any man or daddies to get in charged of the house. When I was younger, I thought I was going to go crazy with same routine every single day; I don’t like the idea of not knowing what I’m doing next like I have no goals. I was ready to get out to discovered about myself, live to the fullest, and life is too short to not be wild

Freedom of Languages.

Three Stories that Susan Stocker wrote was about three different people from different experience base on their deafness or about their family member who's deaf. Pride, low self- esteem, and a father who loves his child but has no communication whatsoever with his son has effect the way they think of themselves and deafness. A girl who has not discovered the identity of herself from the article “Learning my Native Language”, A grown child who witness a lonely father who does not communicate with his child “The Hands of my Father” and a girl who has so much pride with her deafness in “Recollections”.

Learning my Native Language” has taught me that not everyone are not comfortable with their beliefs, religions, appearance, race, background, deafness, blindness, you name it. From the class discussion, I learned that we cannot punish people who feels that way. First of all, they're not being expose to it. We have not educate those people. We, American focus so much about being perfect and expect everyone in every country on this planet to fit in our culture, learn to write and speak our language. Why can't we value every language that human can possibility have on this planet? This article has taught me that not everyone has identified themselves and we cannot say it's a bad thing. My opinion about this article is that I wish this character has a positive attitude and perhaps that will change how she perspective her identity. My question is that, if the ASL teacher at Gallaudet University has a better attitude dealing with Deaf and so-called-hearing/hard-of-hearing, would that change the character to enlighten her protective of “Deaf World? We cannot blame them for not fitting in our “world”, again, we have to educate people.

The Hands of my Father”, The father seems to be lonely because I don’t think he know how to communicate with his son, he wants to tell his son so many things but since he couldn’t, his son seems to believe he know what he was saying by using nature. I honestly think this is a beautiful article. This article makes me realized that we do not need to say the things we need to say. Like for example, the grown child and a father does not communicate but they both knew that they share love for one another. People out there thinks that sign language is a beautiful language and I agree. However, I think silences is beautiful as well.

Recollections”, this article kind of remind about me. My mama didn't like the idea of sending me to school far away from home so she put me in mainstream, it didn't go well. I used to come home and beg my mama to send me to different school. She later realized that I was being picked on by student who didn't understand my language and I could not understand anyone all day, I felt isolated. She noticed I wasn't happy so she wanted me to be around kids like me who could understand me and speaks my language. She later decided to put me to Kentucky School for the Deaf, she noticed I would come home on Friday with a smile on my face. She knew she was doing something right, however, she felt bad that I still feel isolated when we get together with family so she start teaching me how to speak and practice to may it right (it was never right, we had a country accent with a little bit of slang). I struggle for so long, I told my mama I don't see why I should speak all the time for them, if they wanted to communicate with me. They need to access my language as well, she knew I was right. I started to speak, some of my family started to sign a little bit and I started to write if they could not understand me. I understand where this girl was coming from where she has so much pride in her deafness because she was exposed to that from her family.

People are so different everywhere on this planet, their experience create their identity, becomes who they are in the future. No such a thing being exact the same with another human being. those three stories has taught me that, it taught me that people has their own language and they may be okay with it or not. But it's NOT okay for us to tell them what is right or wrong. It's a perfect world with various of language. Every language should be valuable.

Leave Home "The First Day" (7-19)

In this story, I can tell a little girl's mother wanted the best for her daughter. The little girl did not realized that her mother cannot read and write. The story makes me question if many parent has not been expose to read and/or write? How can a child have a better education without the parent's education experience or support from their experience? It makes me wonder what will this little girl do after she realized her mother cannot read and write? Does it motivated her to do better? I believe the significance of the title is to realize the begining of everything at age of five years old. The specific words or phrases used to describe characters is lost, the mother was not exposed to read and write and the little girl were obviously not exposed from her mother.
